Cecilio & Kapono concerts to show holiday cheer this week

POSTED: November 20, 2009

WAILUKU - Cecilio & Kapono are sharing early Thanksgiving cheer with the people of Molokai and residents of Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center in Wailuku this week.

On Monday, the duo traveled to Molokai as part of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Artist in the Community program. There they worked with music students and Hawaiian Language Immersion students from Molokai High School.

Then they presented a free concert for the entire community in Kaunakakai.

Today, they will visit Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center, which has been an annual holiday tradition for Henry Kapono for years. They will perform a free concert for the residents and spend some time getting to know them through "talk story."

"Every year we look forward to visiting Maui to perform at the MACC," said Cecilio Rodriguez. Henry Kapono said, "But our favorite thing about this visit is participating in the Artist in the Community program because we get to meet so many island residents up-close and personal. At first we thought we were giving something to the community, but it turns out we get just as much as they do - maybe even more."

C&K will perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Ticket prices range from $12 to $37. There is also a VIP meet-and-greet package available for $50. For tickets, phone 242-7469 or go to www.mauiarts.org.
