HONOLULU - Four Maui County schools received awards in The Berry Co.'s Think Yellow, Go Green Telephone Directory Recycling Contest.

The Berry Co. is the local publisher of the Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages.

On Maui, the first-place winner was Montessori Hale O Keiki, which received $700. Second place went to King Kekaulike High School, which received $500.

A total of 10,280 pounds of books was collected on Maui.

On Molokai, first place went to Kualapu'u Elementary New Century Public School, which received $400. There were 2,088 pounds of books collected on Molokai.

On Lanai, Lanai High and Elementary School was awarded $250 for collecting 2,100 pounds of books, as the only school on the island, a release said.

Organizers said the number of awards was based on the number of participants.

The contest was held across the state with more than 50 schools participating in the program in May. Prizes were presented recently to the schools.

Montessori Hale O Keiki will use the funds to build up its organic garden that students plant and harvest.

The Berry Co. is committed to environmentally responsible business practices, which include 100 percent recyclable directories with safe inks, dyes and high percentages of post-consumer recycled material, a release said. Customers now may choose downloadable directories or CDs as their primary directory. More information is available at www.htyellowpages.com.
