HONOLULU (AP) - Thousands of National Guardsmen and women plan to hold their annual convention in Hawaii in 2013.
Hawaii National Guard commander Maj. Gen. Robert G.F. Lee said Tuesday that the three-day meeting is expected to attract 5,000 people and generate $24 million in visitor spending.
The National Guard Association of the United States will gather at the Hawaii Convention Center next to Waikiki.
Honolulu competed with Chicago to host the Sept. 21-23, 2013, event.
The association plans to meet in the Windy City the following year.
