PAIA - A 27-year-old homeless man was flown to an Oahu hospital after he reported he was set on fire while sleeping in Paia early Thursday morning, police said.

Police were looking for another homeless man as a "person of interest" in the attempted-murder investigation.

The victim, who was living near the beach at Paia Bay, went to the Paia Shell Station at 2:50 a.m. to report what happened, police said.

The victim was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where officials reported he suffered second-degree burns over 50 percent of his body. He was later flown to Straub Clinic & Hospital, where he was in critical condition, police reported.

The police are continuing an investigation.
