Haiku resident Raphael O’Suna searches through the stacks of books at Puunene’s Friends of the Library Bookstore on Tuesday afternoon looking for a book worthy of spending a dime. O’Suna said he has been shopping at the bookstore since the mid-1980s, when it was located in Kahului. “The best part of the store is you can buy a book you’re not sure of, and if you don’t like it, you are only out 10 cents,” he said. The store has an assortment of Christmas books, as well as a “free” section and an area with reference books and atlases that may run as much as $10. The store is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. It will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 4.
