The Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational doesn't start for another week, but the buzz is already building. Kicking things off a little early is a plein air workshop by visiting artists Clark G. Mitchell and Ned Mueller. Mitchell's workshop will be held Tuesday to Feb. 11, and Mueller's is set for Feb. 22 to 24.
"For some artists, the major goal of the workshops will be getting comfortable with the materials and all the unique challenges of painting outdoors," said Mitchell. "For those used to plein air painting, the challenge will be to try new techniques, such as a liquid under painting to start the scene. I'm looking forward to what participants familiar to the island can show me as well."
