WAILUKU - Adam Sandler's Happy Madison production company is finalizing plans for a new comedy that will bring Sandler and Jennifer Aniston to Maui and Oahu for four to six weeks of filming in mid-April.
The project, identified as "The Pretend Wife" on the Internet Movie Data Base, will be directed by frequent Sandler collaborator Dennis Dugan.
According to movie industry bloggers, the plot has Sandler playing a relationship-resistant doctor who tells his 22-year-old girlfriend he can't marry her because he already has a wife and family. When the young woman presses the point, he has to come up with a surrogate spouse in a hurry, which is where Aniston enters the picture.
Written by Timothy Dowling and Allan Loeb, the project has a working title of "Holiday in Hawaii."
Maui County Film Commissioner Benita Brazier confirmed Friday that the company had been scouting Maui locations since November, although there has been no formal announcement yet of the Maui portion of the filming.
Shooting begins in Los Angeles in March. The film is set for release early in 2011.
