Wednesday services set through Lent
KAHULUI - Emmanuel Lutheran Church will begin a series of worship services starting on Ash Wednesday and continuing through the season of Lent.
The public is invited to a soup supper at 6 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a worship service at 7, with the event repeating Wednesdays, through March 24.

MAKAWAO - Makawao Union Church will mark "Evolution Sunday" during a 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
The church will join 841 congregations in 50 states and 11 countries to affirm that religion and science should be seen as complementary rather than confrontational. "Evolution Sunday" is celebrated on the Sunday closest to the birth date of Charles Darwin, the father of the theory of evolution.
The church also will observe Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent, on Wednesday. A light supper will be served at 6 p.m., followed by worship in the community hall adjacent to the church.
Makawao Union Church is an interdenominational congregation at 1445 Baldwin Ave.

Service to include renewal of vows
KAHULUI - Maui Evangelical Church will hold a special service at 8 a.m. Sunday that will include a renewal of marriage vows for attending couples.
A brunch prepared by church members will follow the service.

Luncheon, silent auction Feb. 21
MAKENA - In support of its local outreach mission, Keawala'i Congregational Church will host a catered luncheon and silent auction Feb. 21.
The event will take place on the church grounds in Makena, and proceeds will go to help people in need on Maui.
Luncheon tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children ages 5-12. Children younger than 5 are free.
Food service will begin at 11:15 a.m. Auction items represent a variety of donations from local merchants and artists.

Yard sale to benefit youth mission trip
WAILUKU - Valley Isle Fellowship's G-Force Youth Ministry will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday to raise money to help send four youth members of the church on a Mexico mission trip in July.
Items for sale will include plants, produce, baked goods, gently used clothing, office furniture and flower arrangements.

Joint service set for Ash Wednesday
KIHEI - Kihei Lutheran Church, Kihei United Methodist Mission and Trinity Episcopal Church by the Sea will hold a joint Ash Wednesday worship service at 7 p.m. at Kihei Lutheran Church.
The service Wednesday will mark the beginning of Lent with the placing of ashes in the sign of a cross on worshippers' foreheads and the celebration of Holy Communion.
Kihei Lutheran and Kihei United Methodist choirs will perform separate anthems.
Kihei Lutheran Church is at Piilani Highway and Moi Place.
