* "Black Scientist/Black Inventors Presentation" will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. today at Borders Books Music Movies and Cafe in Maui Marketplace. Pacific Raven Press will release "African Americans in Hawaii: A Search for Identity" at an event from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. A ceremony honoring members of Hawa'i's African American community will follow the book launch. Maui business owner John "Stan" Rippy will be presented with the Community Achievement Service Award and educator Dr. Kathryn Waddell Takara will accept the Lifetime Achievement Award.
* An "African Americans in Hawaii: A Search for Identity" book signing and reading is happening from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Borders Books Music Movies and Cafe in Maui Marketplace.
