Furlough Fry Days’ tasty lesson

March 6, 2010
The Maui News

Kalani Hutchison, 5, of Lahaina assisted Kevin Miller of David Paul's Island Grill as they served up some fried green tomatoes Friday morning to the crowd during Furlough Fry Days at Whalers Village.

Chef David Paul created the dish during the first Furlough Fry Days event, which is a community-sponsored program providing an educational forum for keiki who are out of school due to Furlough Fridays at Hawaii's public schools.

Hutchison is a pre-kindergartner at the private Sacred Hearts School and was out of class because of Sacred Hearts' annual bazaar.
