Kihei Aquatic Center lifeguard Jessi Malsnee sprays the walls of the drained 50-meter pool Thursday morning to help keep them from drying out and cracking. The 890,000-gallon pool and adjacent 165,000-gallon training pool were closed to the public to deal with a persistent case of black algae and to perform other repairs and general maintenance. The pools are scheduled to reopen March 22. Goodfellow Brothers set up a pump to help drain the pools and used the water for its nearby project, the Kihei Regional Park.
