LIHUE - A company that helps operate the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai is laying off 14 employees.
Manu Kai LLC program manger Jim Eken said Wednesday that layoffs will be spread throughout the work force, leaving the Hawaii-based company with 456 employees.
Eken said those being laid off effective April 2 will be informed today.
Manu Kai is in the second year of a $53 million-a-year, 10-year contract with the Navy to operate the missile range facility.
Navy spokesman Jim Murray said the company's obligations span building and grounds maintenance to high-tech assistance with missile testing.
The missile range is one of Kauai's largest employers, with about 65 Navy enlisted personnel, 120 civilian Navy workers and up to 650 contractor employees.
