HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii All-State Marching Band will be marching with nine other bands from around the country in the 2011 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.
The band's selection from among 150 entrants was announced Thursday by Gov. Linda Lingle.
She said that marching in the storied parade is an opportunity of a lifetime for band members.
Band director John Riggle called the selection an amazing opportunity.
He says the band will be composed of students selected from all public and private high schools, representing every island in the state.
The band last appeared in the parade in 2005.
The two-mile-long parade is more than 80 years old and attracts 3.5 million spectators and 50 million viewers.
