Hungry for some fresh sashimi, crispy calamari and steamer clams with garlic and white wine?
Buzz's Wharf, the landmark blue-roof restaurant at Maalaea Harbor, is donating 10 percent of its food sales every Wednesday to a select nonprofit or charity each month. Kihei Canoe Club was first and now it's i9 Sports, a youth sports league of football and basketball. Buzz's is still looking for a May charity to support.
"It's good to give back to the community," says Marla Braun-Miller, owner and general manager of Buzz's Wharf. "A lot of funding has stopped because of the economy, but these nonprofits still need our help. We're doing 'Give Back Wednesdays' from March to November and hopefully we'll continue to do it every year."

Getting ready to enjoy the signature sweet prawns Tahitian are Buzz’s Wharf owner and general manager, Marla Braun-Miller, and Kihei Canoe Club member and culturist Klmokeo Kapahulehua. The sweet Markea prawns are from the Braun-Miller family’s fresh-water farm in New Caledonia. Kihei Canoe Club will go to the French-speaking island nation May 25-29 to compete in the 14th annual World Sprints championships and they are selling the prawns as a fundraiser.
The 10 percent donation on Wednesdays applies to both the lunch and the dinner menus. The prawns Tahitian is a signature entree. Raised in remote New Caledonia, a French-speaking nation in the South Pacific, they have no hormones, antibiotics or color added. The owners of Buzz's have 20 ponds there at 10 acres each and export the prawns all over the world.
At Buzz's Wharf, the plump crustaceans are butterflied, seasoned and baked in the shell with dry vermouth, dill and a dusting of parmesan cheese. Drizzle with a little lemon and dip the lobster-like meat in butter and you'll be in prawn heaven.
"This is my Tahitian grandma's recipe and it's been in my family for 41 years," says Braun-Miller.
Kihei Canoe Club is now selling boxes of Buzz's prawns as a fundraiser so members may race in New Caledonia in May at the 14th annual World Sprints.
In addition, Hawaii residents will get 30 percent off food on Kamaaina Sunday all day each week, except for Mother's Day and Father's Day.
