Maui Police Department Training Division officer Nick Krau (foreground) and Sgt. Oran Satterfield use duct tape to straighten their Cop on Top sign Thursday afternoon on the first day of their fundraising effort for Maui Special Olympics atop the Kihei Safeway store. The officers’ goal is to raise $10,000 for Special Olympics before they come off the roof at 6 p.m. Saturday. Police officers also are aiming to raise the same amount of money on Safeway rooftops in Kahului and Lahaina. This year, the fundraiser is critical because Special Olympics will not receive a $35,000 Maui County grant in fiscal 2011.
