HONOLULU (AP) - More than 6,500 Hawaii schoolchildren have chosen the first volume of a suspense series for the 45th annual 2010 Nene Award.
The winner of the honor was ''Found'' by Margaret Peterson Haddix. The runner-up was ''How to Steal a Dog'' by Barbara O'Connor.
''Found'' is the first volume of the suspense series ''The Missing.'' It begins with a plane unexpectedly landing at an airport carrying 36 passengers - all infants - and no flight crew.
The Nene Award is supported by the Hawaii State Public Library System and the state Department of Education.
