Monsoon India is a whirlwind of exotic tastes, bold colors and spectacular oceanfront views in calm, leeward North Kihei. Now, in addition to regular a la carte favorites you may order any day of the week, you may savor several all-you-can-eat buffets of the authentic Indian kind.
"The new Friday night buffet is perfect for those coming back from a day of shopping," says partner Hari Reddy, who opened the restaurant Sept. 13 with Bindeshor Kakshapati of the acclaimed Chutney restaurant on Kauai. "We also do a Friday lunch buffet and a Sunday brunch buffet, and the latter is perfect for people coming back from church and others."
At the Friday evening buffet from 5 to 9 p.m., savor a selection of curries, sauces, rices, appetizers, main courses, fruits and desserts in mild, medium and spicy to suit varying tastes.

Three types of naan (flat breads) accompany the new chicken malai salad, dahl, aloo gobi, scallops korma and palak paneer on the a la carte menu. Now, Monsoon India also offers a variety of buffets.
It also features crispy onion and cauliflower pakoras (fritters) as appetizers with dipping sauces, then you may pile your plate with basmati and vegetarian biriyani rice as bases for more.
Vegetarian curries include moong dal (mung bean), chana masala (tomato and cream based sauce with featured items) aloo gobi (potato and cauliflower cooked in light spices), palak paneer (spinach and house-made cheese), and vegetable korma (those crisp fritters again).
Then, you may sink your teeth into silky chicken and sauce cooked in the tandoor oven, along with fiery pork vindaloo, chicken tikka masala and shrimp curry. Then cool off with cucumber-yogurt raita along with fresh salads and fruits.
Desserts include much-loved Indian gulab jamon, which is a dough ball flavored with rose water along with jalebi - a fried sweet shaped similar to a pretzel soaked in syrup. Cost of the Friday evening buffet is $27.95 per person.
In addition, Monsoon India also features a Friday lunch buffet from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It's got half vegetarian and half meat and seafood offerings. Cost is $13.95 per person. The Sunday brunch buffet runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $13.95 for the vegetarian selections and $17.95 for the whole nine yards. It's all BYOB.
