Maui United falls 3-0 in regional opener

BERNALILLO, N.M. - The Maui United Soccer Club 94 boys team lost 3-0 to LaRoca Premier of Ogden, Utah, in the teams' opening match of pool play at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional tournament Monday.

LaRoca, ranked No. 8 in the West and No. 33 nationally by NationalSoccerRanking.com, scored two goals in the first half and added another midway through the second at State Farm Soccer Complex.

Maui United (No. 9/35) next faces Northern California's Santa Clara Sporting (No. 6/27) today and wraps up pool play on Wednesday against Slammers SC (No. 23 in West) of Southern California. Slammers and Santa Clara played to a 1-1 draw Monday.

Kihei's Smith makes hole-in-one at Makena

MAKENA - Rick Smith of Kihei recorded a hole-in-one on June 6 at the Makena Golf Course.

Smith used a 6-iron to ace the 171-yard fourth hole.

Witnesses were Maury Davenport, Scott Kayser and Jeff Kayser.

St. Anthony football workouts to begin

WAILUKU - The St. Anthony High School's eight-man football program will begin summer workouts on Wednesday.

All interested students are asked to report to the high school's football field by 12:30 p.m., dressed to work out. Practice begins at 3 p.m.

All pertinent paperwork and information will be available at that time.

Spyda's 4-4 bowling tourney set for August

WAILUKU - The annual Spyda's 4-4 Team Invitational Bowling Tournament will be held Aug. 21-22 at the Maui Bowling Center.

The tournament fees are $70 per bowler ($350 per team) for both dates.

Entry forms are available at the bowling center. The tournament, which is certified with the U.S. Bowling Congress, is limited to the first 20 team entries submitted. The entry deadline is July 16.
