Maui United finishes 0-3 in tournament
BERNALILLO - The Maui United Soccer Club 94 boys team lost 4-0 to Jammers SC of Southern California on Wednesday to finish 0-3 at
the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional.
Maui United coach Fred Guzman praised the play of center defenders Anthony Barboza and Conner Snow, saying ''both of them had a very good tournament.''
Guzman also noted the contribution on Wednesday of goalkeeper Aukai Akoi, who started due to injuries.

Luna, Kepani capture weightlifting titles
HONOLULU - Jaymen Luna, a Baldwin High School student, won the 136-pound Schoolage Division weightlifting title at the Aloha State Games on Saturday, and Colten Brittain Kepani, also a Baldwin student, took the heavyweight title in the same division.
Luna lifted 110 pounds in the snatch and 154 in the clean and jerk. Kepani had a snatch of 132 pounds a clean and jerk of 176.
Joey Kauhaahaa, an incoming freshman at St. Anthony, competed in the heavyweight division and snatched 143 pounds.

Justin Keiley takes Public Links qualifier
WAIEHU - Justin Keiley of Haiku birdied the last three holes to win the U.S. Amateur Public Links sectional qualifier that concluded Saturday at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course.
Keiley, who has also qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, finished with a two-round total of 4-under-par 140.
Royden Heirakuji and Nathan Kurisu each totaled 141, earning alternate spots.
The Public Links championship is scheduled for July 12-17 at Bryan Park Golf Course in Greensboro, N.C.

Women's golf tourney slated for Aug. 7-8
SPRECKELSVILLE - The 56th annual Maui Women's Golf Invitational is scheduled for Aug. 7-8.
The first round will be at Kahili Golf Course, with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. The second round will be at Maui Country Club, with a 7 a.m. shotgun start.
The event is open to women at least 18 years old with a current GHIN handicap from a Hawaii State Golf Association-affiliated club.
The entry fee of $130 pays for greens fees, use of a cart, a chance at prizes and an awards luncheon on Aug. 8. The field is limited to the first 72 paid entries, and the deadline to enter is July 25.
Entry forms are available at most golf courses and have been sent to women's golf clubs in Hawaii.

Knight to hold wrestling clinic at Lahainaluna
LAHAINA - Steve Knight, a former All-American at Iowa State and Pan-American Games champion now coaching Team Excel, will conduct a wrestling clinic Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to noon each day, at the Lahainaluna High School gymnasium.
An optional practice is scheduled for Monday.
The clinic is for all high school-aged wrestlers, and advanced wrestlers in 5th-8th grade. The fee is $50.
