'ALL TOGETHER NOW'
Storyteller and balladeer James McCarthy will present "All Together Now" at 10:30 a.m. at Kihei Public Library and 2 p.m. at Wailuku Public Library. McCarthy will perform his popular "say what I say, do what I do" stories and songs in celebration of this year's program theme, "Make a Splash @ your library!" Admission is free. O-BON FESTIVAL
Enjoy one of Hawaii's most colorful traditions during an o-bon festival at Lahaina Hongwanji with a service to honor ancestors at 6 p.m., followed by dancing at 7:30 p.m. Now through August, residents and visitors will flock to Buddhist temples from Lahaina to Kula to experience one of Japan's most celebrated traditions. The temples come alive with glowing lanterns and booming taiko drumming, while dancers in colorful kimono circle the yagura tower through the night. Admission is free. For details, call 661-0640.
'SLEEPING BEAUTY'
It's a new twist on an old tale as Pro-Arts, Inc. presents its musical adaptation of the classic "Sleeping Beauty." This "fractured fairy tale" begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Pro-Arts Playhouse in Kihei, featuring nine actors playing all the roles in this version of the classic Grimm Brothers tale. The musical is complete with a beautiful princess, a handsome prince with a magic sword, a doting king and queen and their storytelling assistant, a wise-cracking vulture, a psychic frog, good fairies to bring a happy ending, and one really bad fairy to make things difficult. Audience members are seated right next to the stage for a surround-theatre experience. All ages are welcome. Following the performance, the audience is invited to a meet and greet with the characters, completing this magical theatrical event. JAZZ AND BLUES FEST
The 2010 Maui Invitational Music Festival presents its Jazz and Blues Fest at 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Iao Theater in Wailuku. The concert will feature performances by the Highseas Dixieland Jazz Band, theMana'o Radio Orchestra featuring Vince Esquire, Omar & The Soultones, Jamallad, and the AECG student ensemble.
