REDMOND, Wash. - The Maui United under-14 team played to a 0-0 draw with Emerald City FC M95 in a U.S. Club Soccer Seattle Regional Super Group match on Saturday, and the Maui United under-16 girls lost 4-2 to Eastside 94 Red.
Emerald City is ranked third in Washington.
''We had two great chances in the second half,'' said Maui coach Fred Guzman, ''But one of the shots went directly to the keeper and the other was just wide of the right post.''
Guzman praised the play of midfielders Daniel Quenga and Juaquin Navarro-Bourne, as well as defender A.J. Owan.
In the U16 match, Maui's Maya Palaroan scored the first goal on a breakaway seven minutes in, but Eastside responded with three goals before halftime. Maui got back within one on a 25-yard shot by Amanda Jorgensen.
''We played much better in the second half, but couldn't make up the hole we got into in the first half,'' said Maui coach Matt Snyder. ''That's a very good team we played. They are the number one team in Washington, number seven in the region and number 13 nationally.''
Maui will face the River City Steelers in a U14 match today, and the Maui U16 team will face Westside Metros Fury, ranked No. 2 in Oregon.
