What's a windsurfer addict to do when he becomes injured and can no longer participate in the sport he loves? For Franck Berthuot, stepping behind the lens has proved the next best thing.
Berthuot grew up in Paris and moved to Maui 11 years ago to follow his passion of windsurfing. After hurting his back over a year ago windsurfing, Franck still wanted to be in the water, so he would go for there physical therapy. One day he took his camera out in the water with him and from pain a new passion was born.
Berthout will share his images in an exhibit titled "Resume of the Winter" at Green Banana Cafe and Green Banana Yogurt Bar in Paia. The display will open Monday, followed by a reception with the artist at 7 p.m. July 9. Highlights include a photo of a 14-year-old Maui boy surfing Jaws this past winter and a longboarder at Honolua Bay.
