WAILUKU - Formal charges are expected to be brought today against a 21-year-old Waiehu man arrested in connection with the shooting of another man Saturday night in a Waiehu neighborhood, police said late Monday afternoon.
In the incident, a 30-year-old Makawao man suffered a single gunshot wound to his left thigh, and he remained in good condition at the Maui Memorial Medical Center on Monday, said acting Capt. John Jakubczak of the Criminal Investigation Division.
The bullet was expected to be removed today, he added.

A shooting occurred outside this Waiehu residence Saturday night.
Jakubczak said police were not releasing the name of the victim because the investigation was ongoing. Police also were looking at whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
Jakubczak said the shooting occurred in front of a residence at 834 Olena St.
At least one person fired a gun, but police were continuing to investigate the number of shots fired, and police had not yet located the gun used in the shooting, Jakubczak said.
But he said two bullet casings were found on Olena Street and three bullet casings and one bullet were found in a silver Honda that the 21-year-old Waiehu man was driving.
A resident discovered a bullet fragment in his home on Olena Street on Monday, Jakubczak said. But the resident was not at home at the time of the shooting, he said.
Another bullet fragment was found on a light pole on Olena Street.
Police initially responded to the incident around 10:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving several reports of "shots being fired" in the 800 block of Olena Street.
Callers to 911 told dispatchers that a silver Honda was seen quickly leaving the area. Police found the car, and a pursuit began.
While the chase was going on, other officers were directed to a residence on nearby Aukai Street in Waiehu, where the victim of the gunshot wound was found.
Police had yet to determine why the victim ended up at the Aukai Street residence, Jakubczak said.
The vehicle chase with the Honda ended about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when the car was stopped on Kahekili Highway near Kahakuloa Village. The 21-year-old suspect was arrested there.
Witnesses said a confrontation on Olena Street involving several people preceded the reports of shots being fired. Police were working to determine how the incident began.
Neighbors said a house near the shooting scene is a frequent scene of noisy parties, gatherings and domestic conflicts, with police called to the home. Neighbors said Olena Street was quiet before the current residents moved in.
