Summer is sizzling and many of us want to chill out. So Hana Hou Cafe in Haiku will go with the flow by presenting another one of its popular Wine & Dine dinners at 7 p.m. Saturday in its cool, open-air tasting room.
"Our next tasting will feature organic wines from around the world," says Katie Thibault, who runs the restaurant with her husband, Laurent Thibault. "The wines will be presented by Elena Quezada from Sandwich Island Cellars."
Begin the evening with the Spanish sparkling wine, Con Vendrell Cava Brut, accompanied by blue-crab cakes in lilikoi beurre-blanc sauce. Then sip some pinot noir from Girasole Vineyards in Mendocino, Calif., with organic tapenade and eggplant "caviar" toast on a bed of baby mixed greens.

Owners Katie and Laurent Thibault of Hana Hou Cafe in Haiku will pull out all of the stops this Saturday evening.
For the entree course, Quezada has chosen cabernet sauvignon from Nuevo Mundo Estate Reserva, to be paired with chile-spiced Moroccan-style lamb kebab with raisin-and-pine-nut couscous.
Since Laurent is from France and he formerly was head waiter at Chez Paul in Olowalu, the feast will end with crepes Suzette, paired with muscat from Foris Vineyards in Oregon.
"Enjoy our intimate setting in our new wine-tasting room," says Katie. "It's a small venue and fills up fast, so place a call in advance for your reservations. In addition, come visit us for lunch or dinner Aug. 7, as Haiku merchants will host an eco-festival."
