MAN ARRESTED IN CAR THEFT CASE
KAHULUI - A 19-year-old Kahului man was arrested Thursday in the investigation of a car theft, police said.
An all-points bulletin had been issued for Jonathan Kaiwi before he was arrested at 2:47 p.m., said Lt. Tim Gapero of the Criminal Investigation Division.
Kaiwi was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail on a charge of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
The owner of the 1997 two-door Honda Civic called police July 23 after returning home from work and noticing that his car was parked in a different location down the street from his residence, Gapero said. He said the owner was contacted by a relative who identified Kaiwi as the person who stole the car. The relative also reported as having told Kaiwi to return the vehicle, Gapero said.
A speaker was reported missing from the trunk of the car, he said.
