MAUI PHOTO FESTIVAL SHOOTS IN WEST MAUI
The second Maui Photo Festival & Workshops is under way at the Hyatt Regency Maui in Lahaina. From novice to professional, participants will learn from classroom sessions, location shoots and hands-on demo sessions led by pro photographers. In the evenings, participants will gather in the outdoor theater on Kaanapali Beach to view the work of presenting pros and see images shot that day. Azeka Shopping Center hosts its sixth annual O-Bon Festival Saturday
SLAM POETRY HITS MAUI TATTOO PARLOR
Maui Slam Poetry journeys to the Paia Tattoo Parlor, hosting a fundraiser to help send Maui spoken-word artist Mountain to the Individual World Poetry Slam tournament. Maui Slam poets and other special guests will perform, and an open mic will be available for rogue poets ages 18 and older. A fashion show by A.R.I.E Designs (Ariana Hornkohl) and Lola & Anna (Shelly Lindsey) as well as the Paia Tattoo Gallery art exhibit are also on tap. It happens from 6 to 10 this evening. Admission is by donation, $5 to $10 is suggested, and those over 21 may BYOB. The gallery is located upstairs at 120 Hana Highway.

LUKAS NELSON GETS REAL AT CHARLEY'S
Lukas Nelson returns to his old Maui stomping grounds with his band, Promise of the Real. They play at Charley's Friday with opening act P.O.R.T.A.L. and special guests, Cost is $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

KEOLA AND RAITAEA IN CONCERT AT THE MACC
Riding the crest of their stellar "Keola Beamer & Raiatea" CD, these two artists perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle Theater. Beamer is a landmark artist and member of one of Hawaii's leading musical families. Helm, 25, already has two Grammy nominations and numerous Na Hoku Hanohano Awards to her credit. O-BON FESTIVAL RETURNS TO KIHEI
Azeka Shopping Center hosts its sixth annual O-Bon Festival from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Azeka Mauka. This 500-year-old Japanese tradition brings together dancers of all ages in colorful kimono, dancing in intricate unison to drumming and recorded music as they honor their ancestors. Admission is free. The Maui Taiko Drummers will perform at 6:45 p.m. and dancing begins at 7 p.m. Alaka'i Paleka, KPOA's Morning Goddess will be the emcee for the evening, Food booths and fun for the family are on tap.
