MUSEUM MARKING MAUI'S TRANSITIONS

To celebrate the just-published 1951-1973 index to The Maui News, Maui Historical Society is offering a free presentation and panel discussion, "A Community in Transition: Maui from 1951 to 1973 As Recorded by The Maui News," from 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. Walter Cameron Center Auditorium. With Gail Ainsworth as moderator, panel members who lived on Maui during that era, will discuss what Maui was like and how it changed. Significant events that altered the course of Maui include statehood, the Korean and Vietnam wars, the development of Kihei and Kaanapali, and the influx of immigrants from the Mainland. FREE SCREENING OF 'TAPPED' IN MAALAEA

A free screening of the award-winning film "Tapped" will be offered at 6 p.m. at the Pacific Whale Foundation's Maalaea center as part of its Making Waves Lecture Series. Directed by Stephanie Soechtig, the film explores the bottled watter industry's impact on health, climate change and reliance on oil. LISTEN UP DURING 'BE HEARD' BLOCK PARTY

Performances by local entertainers, food, a silent auction and other festivities will be offered at the Akaku "Be Heard" block party from 5 to 10 p.m. at 333 Dairy Road. Eric Gilliom & Friends will play at 8 p.m. Throughout the evening, music and entertainment will be provided by the Steve Grimes Band, Up Country Line Dancers, Classic Knights, Teri Garrison, Vince Esquire Trio, Josh Kahula & Friends, Papa Kili Mawae & Pekelo, C.T. Ryder & The Green Band, Zumba dancing, Dr. Nat & Rio Ritmo, Fusion Sol with Sunny Gorg and the Harley Brown Band. The event, organized by Akaku to celebrate the community's voice that can be heard in voting during primary state and county elections, is free.

WACKY WAHINES ARE SURE TO GET LAUGHS

The Comedy Hui is going to the girls with its September show, starting at 7 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's McCoy Studio Theater. Guest starring Kathy Collins, the improv comedy night will feature the performances of six women and one man - each of whom will get participants chuckling, no matter what the gender. Each performance by the Comedy Hui is unique because the audience co-creates the show, much like the premise of TV's "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Be prepared for a mix of fast-paced games, wacky characters and a few musicals. 'THE HOMECOMING' SET FOR THE IAO THEATER

"The Homecoming," written by Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter, will take the Historic Iao Theater stage at 7:30 p.m. in Wailuku. When Teddy, a professor in an American university, brings his wife, Ruth, to visit London and his family, he finds himself prey to old conflicts. But it is Ruth who soon becomes the focus of the family's struggle for supremacy. Featuring performances by Mark Collmer, Joe Spangler, John Peterson, Nick Batres, Robert Henningsen and Sharleen Lagattuta, the comedy of menace is produced and directed by Jennifer Rose as licensed by Samuel French Inc. The play contains vulgar language, comedy, violence and sexual themes not appropriate for children. Tickets are $10 and are available at Kihei's Lava Java and Wailuku's If The Shoe Fits. FUNNYMAN AUGIE T TO PERFORM IN HANA

One of Hawaii's most-loved comedians, Augie T, will take visitors to school with his wisecracks during the one-man live show "I Was Left Behind" at 8 p.m. at Hana Ranch Restaurant. The performance is part of Augie T's Hawaii comedy tour and DVD taping. Augie T, a two-time Na Hoku Hanohano award-winner, has raised more than $30,000 over the last three years to help schools, organizations, clubs and students pay for trips, uniforms, equipment, schooling and other necessities. A portion of the proceeds from "I Was Left Behind" will be given to arts and theater programs throughout the state. Tickets are $15, available at the Hana Ranch Restaurant. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 20

CONCERT WILL HONOR ANNUAL DAY OF PEACE

Some of Maui's favorite performers will take the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center stage for a "Seasons For Peace" concert from 1 to 7:30 p.m. in observance of International Day of Peace. Curt Lee will kick off the show, followed by the Ukulele Pops Kupuna band, Jason Schwartz, Bonnie Newman and Louise Lambert, the Hau'oli Hula Sisters, reggae singer Marty Dread, Omar, the Kamehameha Schools Maui ukulele band, a Chinese ribbon dance by Sifu Kali, Passengers Group, Christ the King youth group performance and a finale by Maui Taiko drummers. The theme of this year's observance is "Children First," and nonprofit groups, including Women Helping Women, Maui Mediation Services, Parents of Children Together, Domestic Violence Task Force and Aloha House, will offer information on the topic.

ATARIS GEAR UP TO ROCK W. MAUI SHOW

Indie rock fans will want to get a jump on tickets to The Ataris, set to perform at 9:30 p.m. at Hard Rock Cafe Maui on Front Street in Lahaina. The Ataris are currently touring and recording the band's forthcoming album, "The Graveyard of the Atlantic," due out later this year. The show is part of Hard Rock Cafe Maui's 20th anniversary celebration.
