With Clint Eastwood on ‘Hereafter’: ‘He’s just a zen master kind of guy’

The Maui News
Academy Award-winning director Clint Eastwood follows a day of location shooting on “Hereafter” in Lahaina last January chilling out with the Maui stunt team: stuntman Colin Fong (from left), co-stunt coordinator Lei Maa Richmond, stunt coordinator Branscombe Richmond and surfer/stuntman Dave Kalama. The stunt players were featured in the dramatic tsunami sequence that opens the film, hanging off building facades and rooftops as well as providing safety coordination for “Hereafter” star Cecile de France and young Maui actress Jessica Griffiths as they try to escape the wall of water. “It was a rare experience,” veteran stunt coordinator Richmond said of working with Eastwood. “There was no yelling, shouting or loud noises on the set. Clint also had an honor for where we were filming — he said, ‘Let’s leave this place better than we found it.’ He’s just a zen master kind of guy, but he also has a sense of humor.” “Hereafter” is now playing in theaters.
