Maui police responded to reports of disorderly conduct in Lahaina and Paia on Halloween night.
Capt. Wallace Tom, commander of the Lahaina Patrol District, said police made five arrests in four incidents in Lahaina.
Those arrested were:
* A 35-year-old man with no local address, arrested for drinking in a historic district.
* A 32-year-old woman from Vancouver, British Columbia, and a 33-year-old man from San Jose, Calif., both arrested for third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug (marijuana).
* A 31-year-old Waihee man, arrested for third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug (marijuana).
* A 33-year-old man, with no local address, arrested for disorderly conduct when he was found intoxicated and had a confrontation with police.
Nevertheless, "it was orderly," Tom said Monday afternoon, adding that things ran "very smoothly."
"We didn't encounter any major fights out on Front Street," he said.
Tom said the arrests were made between 7:45 p.m. Sunday and 1:30 a.m. Monday by the Maui Police Crime Reduction Unit headed by Sgt. Jerald Perkett. Lahaina Specialized Unit officer Lawrence Kauha'aha'a headed the other police efforts on Front Street.
In Paia town, there were three reports of disorderly conduct between 10 p.m. Sunday and 1:30 a.m. Monday, said Lt. Wayne Ibarra. One person was arrested on a warrant.
One disorderly conduct case was near Flatbread Co. where 10 to 15 people were reportedly in a fight. But when police showed up, the crowd dispersed, Ibarra said.
Another disorderly conduct case occurred near Charley's Restaurant where there were at least two people in a fight. Again, the people fled when police arrived, Ibarra said.
The third incident was near 22 Baldwin Ave. involving five people. No one was arrested, Ibarra said.
