Chief of police needs to pay attention

November 2, 2010
The Maui News

How unfortunate it is to have leaders who act as if they can ignore the people they are called to protect.

It is impossible to get an appointment with the police chief. Our phone calls have all been redirected or unanswered. Our complaints are ignored. Something is not right at 55 Mahalani St. when we are repeatedly dismissed. It leads us to conclude that there is a serious problem.

My neighbors and I have repeatedly tried to solicit assistance in stopping a home invader, and I have personally presented complaints about being wrongly ticketed. Requests go unanswered. Nothing we do will capture the attention of the chief.

We have even called the Mayor's Office concerning this problem.

All good leaders perform as servants and put the safety and interests of the people on a high priority.
