FREE SCREENING OF 'WHALE RIDER' AT WHALE SANCTUARY

The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary presents a free screening of "Whale Rider" at 6 p.m. at the sanctuary's Kihei location, 726 S. Kihei Road. Directed by Niki Caro, the film tells the story of a 12-year-old girl's attempt to become a whale rider in her small coastal village of Aotearoa, New Zealand. St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School's18th annual dinner auction, "The Year of the Tiger," from 5 to 9 p.m. at the King Kamehameha Golf Club, features entertainment by the school's ensemble and silent and live auctions. 'THE FANTASTICKS' TO TAKE WAILUKU STAGE

Maui Onstage presents "The Fantasticks" at 6:30 p.m. Monday as part of its free One Night Only (ONO) series at the Historic Iao Theater in Wailuku. The performance, with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones, tells an allegorical story, loosely based on the play "The Romancers" ("Les Romanesques") by Edmond Rostand about two neighboring fathers who trick their children into falling in love by erecting a wall between their houses and staging a mock abduction, so that the boy (Matt) can seemingly, heroically save the girl (Louisa). 'MAGIC OF FRIENDSHIP' AT WAILUKU LIBRARY

PERFORMANCE AT MOLOKAI LIBRARY

James McCarthy, an actor, musician, educator and storyteller, performs at 2 p.m. at Molokai Public Library. McCarthy has traveled the country, learning stories and songs along the way. His stories deal with animals from Africa and North America and with life and legends of the southern Appalachians.
