ISLAND LOWDOWN . . . There's a place in Kaanapali, where you can dig your toes in the sand, watch the surf, grab some ono grinds and listen to music starting at - 11:30 a.m. daily!

Just wear something casual and head to the Barefoot Bar at Hula Grill on Dig Me Beach, and enjoy pupu such as prime skirt-steak lettuce wraps, hoisin-soy pork ribs, crab cakes in lime-cilantro aioli and crunchy Caesar salads as you listen to Hawaiian tunes, live.

The music continues all the way until 9 p.m. daily and Aloha Hour runs from 3 to 5 p.m., with a slew of specially priced cocktails.

Still hunting for a place to stage your annual office party? Grand Wailea will present its Shared Holiday Celebration from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Dec. 11.

For $125 per person, you get dinner, live music and DJ, casino tables, and giveaways such as dinner and hotel room certificates along with treatments at Spa Grande. Just dress in festive attire and share the room with other like-minded revelers. That evening, special room rates will be offered at $199. For further details or reservations, call 875-1234, ext. 4500.

Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapu is running with a new Sunday brunch. It's super affordable with views from its floor-to-ceiling windows of the West Maui Mountains, the lush foliage and the lagoon.

Bring your whole family for kalua pork and cabbage, scrambled eggs, smoked bacon, ahi poke, flame-grilled teriyaki chicken, lomilomi salmon, potato salad, soup of the day, fresh fruits, white rice, desserts, and coffee or tea. Cost is only $22.95 for adults, and $11.95 for keiki 12 and younger. Seniors get a hefty discount, too. For more details, call 244-7643.

Speaking of meal deals, Pizza Hut is offering some on our newspaper's home page. Just surf to mauinews.com and then click on their ad. Register now for online offers of $20 worth of pizza products for $5. But hurry, as the special runs through Sunday only.

Willie K will start to perform at every Walmart location across the state Friday, as that's when he'll release some new songs, tucked away as a CD sampler in every Hawaiian Host Christmas Medley candy box. Talk about a sweet gift for the holidays! On Maui, he'll play Sunday, Nov. 14, at noon in the Kahului store . . . He'll also perform at Kimo's in Lahaina from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, during happy hour that's full of food and drink specials.

Now that Brigit & Bernard's Garden Cafe is through with Oktoberfest celebrations, the owners can step up to the plate to cater the Three Dog Night show at the MACC in Kahului on Saturday. We hear the band's name is from the Aussie Outback, where aborigines slept with dogs to stay warm. A "three dog night" was freezing.

So bring your appetites to the show and get warm with Hungarian goulash soup, all-natural chicken breast Marsala, and Swiss meat loaf with mushroom gravy, potatoes au gratin and mixed vegetables.

We also hear Bale Catering will heat things up Sunday before the Comedy Hui show at the MACC. Savor shrimp rolls, veggie-tofu salad, and lemongrass chicken sandwich along with dessert of tapioca.

Wine lovers should definitely try and snap up tickets for the Wailea Food & Wine Celebration on Nov. 19 under the stars at Hotel Wailea.

The benefit for Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center will flow with 28 winery reps pouring more than 200 wines to taste with foods by seven top Maui restaurants. For tickets, call the Hui at 572-6560. (Industry trade members are invited to hop a free bus from West Maui, provided so that they will have a safe evening.)

Formerly executive sous chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, Mark McDowell is moving up the ladder, heading the culinary team at Makena Beach & Golf Resort. He'll soon be joined by a new food and beverage director from the Hyatt. It should be fun to see what these guys will have in store in coming months.
