Shaloha Sunset Celebration Sunday

WAILEA - A four-course dinner with wines and a private concert by Maui recording artist Willie K will highlight Sunday's Shaloha Sunset Celebration.

The event from 5 to 10 p.m. on the Four Seasons Resort oceanfront lawn also will include live and silent auctions. Tickets are $180 per adult and $50 for children 16 and younger, with proceeds benefiting the Jewish Congregation of Maui.

WAILUKU - Harvest Chapel Church of God will hosts its 15th annual Keiki Christmas Toys Block Party on Sunday.

The event will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku. The party is for children of homeless families, children of incarcerated parents and the less fortunate, according to a church news release.

Motorcycle Clubs of Maui will join the event. Donations for the party may be dropped off the day of the event, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

3 Christmas Eve services planned

KIHEI - Kihei Lutheran Church will hold three Christmas Eve services at 5, 7:30 and 10 p.m. at the corner of Piilani Highway and Moi Place.

Each service will feature Holy Communion, special music and Christmas carols, and will close with a lighting of candles while the church hula group dances the traditional Filipino "Pandanggo sa llaw," or Dance of Light, and congregants sing "Silent Night."

Omwake to deliver Christmas message

WAILUKU - The Rev. Mary Omwake will deliver the Christmas message at Unity Church's Christmas Eve service at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 24 at Iao Theater, 68 N. Market St.

Omwake is a founding member of the Association for Global New Thought and has spoken at the United Nations, according to a news release.

Candlelight services set for Dec. 24

KAHULUI - Kahului Union Church will offer one service Sunday at 9 a.m., followed by lunch.

Then, Christmas Eve candlelight services will provide a message, hula and music at 6:30 and at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 24.

Both services will answer the question "Are you looking for something more this Christmas?" with a seasonal message about "God's unending love and joy, peace beyond understanding, and hope that you can count on."

The evening also will feature hula performances, plus music by the chancel and family choirs and the praise band. Refreshments will follow each service.

Family-friendly services offered

KULA - Waipuna Chapel will offer two identical, family-friendly Christmas Eve services at 5 and 7 p.m. Dec. 24 at 17 Omaopio Road at Kula Highway.

Each service will feature Pastor Dale Gustafson's message, Christmas carols and special music, followed by light refreshments. A nursery/cry room will be available during the services.

Dec. 26, the chapel will offer only one Sunday service at 9:30 a.m., with a concluding Christmas message by Pastor Shaun Waite. Children in kindergarten to grade 8 may attend Sunday school that day.

Lahaina churches set holiday services

LAHAINA - Maria Lanakila Catholic Church in Lahaina and Sacred Hearts Mission in Kapalua have announced their seasonal Mass schedules.

Maria Lanakila Church will hold Christmas weekend Masses, as follows:

6 p.m. and midnight Christmas Eve, with carol singing at 11:30 p.m.

7, 9 and 11 a.m., and 5:30 p.m. Christmas Day.

7, 8:30 and 10 a.m., and 5:30 and 7 p.m. (Spanish speaking) on Holy Family Sunday, Dec. 26.

The next weekend, Maria Lanakila Church will hold New Year's Eve Mass at 7 a.m. Dec. 31, and New Year's Day Mass at 8 a.m. Jan. 1.

Sacred Hearts Mission on Office Road will hold Christmas weekend Masses only (no New Year's services), as follows:

6 p.m. Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

7 and 9 a.m., and 5:30 p.m. Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

8 a.m. on Holy Family Sunday, Dec. 26.

Children's program Sunday in Lahaina

LAHAINA - The Apostolic Faith Church (Jesus Coming Soon) will present a special Christmas children's program on "The Gift of Love" at 10 a.m. Sunday at 1211 Front St. in Lahaina.

Under the direction of Annette Pagay, Sunday school youngsters will provide instrumentals and give a message in each song and recitation, while Kaleb Makimoto, 10, serves as announcer.

Pastor Kenneth Alverio also invites the public to a 7 p.m. service Sunday.

Earlier, KITV Channel 4 will broadcast a Christmas special Sunday from 8 to 9 a.m. or, if pre-empted, at 2 p.m.

WAILUKU - St. Anthony Church will hold seasonal services in the church center, as follows:

Dec. 24: 6 p.m. vigil Mass; 11:30 p.m. caroling.

Dec. 25: 12 a.m. Midnight Mass; 9 a.m. Mass on Christmas day.

Dec. 31: 6 p.m. New Year's Eve vigil Mass.

Jan. 1: 9 a.m. New Year's Day Mass.

Services with carols planned

MAKAWAO - Makawao Union Church will offer two evening services with carols at 6 and 11 o'clock Christmas Eve.

The early family service will present traditional Gospel as well as modern Christmas stories.

The traditional Bible story of the birth of Jesus will highlight the later candlelight service, culminating in the singing of "Silent Night."

Holiday services announced

KEOKEA - The Rev. David C. Moore, interim rector, will lead three Christmas Eve services and one service Christmas morning at St. John's Episcopal Church, 8992 Kula Highway.

On Dec. 24, services will offer Holy Communion, lessons and carols at 4 p.m.; Festive Holy Eucharist, Rite I with candlelight at 8 p.m.; and Festive Holy Eucharist, Rite II with candlelight and choir music at 10:30 p.m., preceded by carols at 10 p.m. Leah Tinkleman will direct St. John's Choir.

On Dec. 25, Festive Holy Eucharist, Rite II will start at 8:30 a.m.
