Many of us dine at home over the holidays. Others need to bring dishes to our host's home. The main dilemma is finding the perfect pit stop for take- out orders this time of year.
For those who live in Central Maui, Asian Star will open its doors Christmas Day for a short window of time from 10 a.m. to noon, so that you may pick up hot Vietnamese entrees.
"We always used to be closed Christmas Day, but so many customers begged us to open our doors, we will do it this year," says owner Jason Chau, who also serves some Chinese food.

Owner Jason Chau wants to thank all of his regular customers for their support. That’s why he’ll open for a short time Saturday.

Popular appetizers that are easy to carry include fried spring rolls, crispy calamari, and fried chicken wings, all with dipping sauces. On the healthier side are fresh summer rolls in peanut sauce, green papaya salad, and chicken or tofu salad with cabbage in a tangy and spicy vinaigrette.
"We will also have normal hours on Christmas Eve this Friday," says Chau. "It's from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. We will also make you a complimentary dessert if you eat dinner in our restaurant from Christmas through New Year's. It's coconut milk tapioca and it's a thank you."
If you are having a family get-together, make sure to call ahead to place large orders for platters of some of the more popular entrees.
Noodles are always crowd pleasers, and Asian Star serves crispy egg noodles with beef or chicken, flat rice noodles with seafood and vermicelli noodles with lemongrass and curry. Whole fresh opakapaka may also be ordered. Call 244-1833.
