LAHAINA -- No injuries were reported after a 65-foot catamaran leaving Lahaina Harbor for a dinner cruise ran aground as it was leaving the harbor around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
About 60 passengers were taken off the Spirit of Lahaina by the operators of another vessel, officials said.
"A Good Samaritan boat was able to quickly rescue all the passengers soon after the grounding," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony Soto. "They were very close to shore."
The incident was reported to the Coast Guard at 7:30 p.m., and officials were continuing to investigate the grounding, Soto said.
He said the catamaran was refloated and returned to its mooring. He did not have information on the amount of damage sustained by the boat. No pollution was seen in the area of the grounding.
Crew members from Coast Guard Station Maui responded to the incident in their 45-foot response boat.
