LEO KOTTKE SET TO PERFORM AT MACC

Acoustic guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle Theater. After four decades of touring and recording, the seasoned artist's Maui performance is not to be missed. MEDITATION CONCERT AT YOGA AWARENESS

NEW FIRST FRIDAY IN WAILUKU WITH MOTH

Start the new year right with Wailuku First Friday, the monthly block party on the island that packs food and entertainment into walking distance in Central Maui. Market Street will close from 6 to 8 p.m. to celebrate 13 years of Maui Time Weekly with a live performance by local band Moth at the Maui Thing Stage. Additional live music will include Gene and Shea Argel at Cafe O'Lei at 5; Head High will play at the Wailuku Banyan Tree Park at 6; and high school band Visibly Shaken will perform at 6 p.m. at the Main Street Promenade. "Ho'okele Wa'a Turning the Canoe - Navigating a Sustainable Future for Maui and the World" will screen at 7:30 pm at the Historic Iao Theater; entry is free, donations will be accepted. 'THE FANTASTICKS' TO TAKE STAGE IN KIHEI

MUSIC, ACTIVITIES AT S. MAUI SKATE JAM

Grab your skate kicks to kick off the new year with the New Year's Skate Jam from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kalama Skateboard Park in Kihei. Sponsored by the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation and presented by The Maui Skateboard Series, the free event is open to the public and will feature skateboard lessons, contests, entertainment and other activities. Arise will be playing live music and DJ?Aloha will be spinning records. All ages and skill levels are welcome; participants younger than 18 must have parents sign a waiver at the event. 'WINTERVENTION' TO SCREEN AT THE MACC

NEW MEDIA ART WITH CHRISTOPHER WILLITS

Welcome to the world of new media art. Musician Christopher Willits fuses patterns of vibrations with sound and light in his electronic, experiential pieces. Willits will take the stage at 7 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's McCoy Studio Theater. Tickets are $17 in advance and $22 the day of the performance, plus applicable fees. Willits has produced 20 albums in 10 years both as a solo artist and in collaboration with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Matmos, Zach Hill and Taylor Deupree. 'THE GIVER' SET FOR IAO THEATER STAGE
