This week the Maui Police Department and Maui Crime Stoppers seek information in a case involving first-degree arson and second-degree burglary in north Kihei.
Just before midnight Jan. 14, fire was detected at the Maui Bridge Club and Intellectual Games Center building, also known as old Kihei School, at 133 S. Kihei Road.
Investigators determined that offenders forcibly entered the building through a window, wrote graffiti on inside walls and rummaged through cabinets; then started a fire in a corner of the room and fled.
Investigators estimated damage at $100,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents.
Anyone with information concerning this break-in and arson 10 days ago is asked to call Maui Crime Stoppers at 242-6966. Neighbor Island residents can call toll free at (888) 242-6966. Callers remain anonymous and are given a code number.
Maui Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of people responsible for felony crimes, the recovery of stolen property or seizure of illegal drugs in felony cases or the capture of felony fugitives.
Consider all wanted people as dangerous. Do not approach, follow or take other action that could put one in danger.
