MYSTIC ISLAND FEST FEATURES MUSICIANS

The fourth annual Mystic Island Festival, a celebration of music, visionary art, workshops, yoga and community, will feature musicians through the weekend at Camp Olowalu in West Maui. Starting with The Troublemakers at 4:30 p.m. and Pat Simmons & Sons (of the Doobie Brothers) at 7 p.m., among other artists, the Mandala Ethnic Arts event continues daily through Sunday. BATTLEFIELD BAND TO TAKE STAGE AT MACC

MAUI SLAM POETRY'S BEATNICK BEAT NIGHT

Maui Slam Poetry's Beatnick Beat Night, an all-acoustic night of poetry, music and art, will kick off at 9:30 p.m. at Casanova in Makawao. Experience words from the heart and soul, accompanied by improvisational rhythms of Justin Morris and Matt Del Olmo of BrownChicken BrownCow String Band. Cellist Ashana Sophia Morrow will perform a "Symphony of Scents," and an after-poetry dance party will be offered. Open poet signup from 9 to 9:30 p.m. Poets at all levels are welcome to perform original poems of three minutes or less. The Maui Pops Orchestra will present its new year's concert with a Classical Sampler, a night of music from master composers such as Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven.
