WAILEA - A Lahainaluna senior is coordinating a Maui community project to send 200 care packages via the nonprofit AnySoldier.com to service personnel stationed overseas.
Chaney Countryman is coordinating a second campaign co-sponsored by the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa; The Shops at Wailea; and Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa to collect personal hygiene items, towels, clothing and other goods for members of the military abroad.
The Wailea Beach Marriott is collecting, through Feb. 15, items such as face cloths, work gloves, socks, T-shirts, twin-size bed sheets, pillow cases, air fresheners, citronella candles, pre-moistened wipes, watches, mouse/insect traps, stationery, crossword puzzles, disposable cameras and small battery-operated flashlights.
"This is simply our way of sharing aloha," said Bill Countryman, general manager of the resort.
