FIRST PHOTO: Maui artist Steve Turnbull (far right) enlists the help of tourists and passers-by Wednesday afternoon while removing a 13-foot-9-inch wooden giraffe sculpture from his truck and installing it outside his gallery at the Shops At Paia Bay. Turnbull said the ohai (Hawaiian monkeypod) wood was harvested five years ago when the Kahului tree was cut down to make way for a University of Hawaii Maui College residential complex.
SECOND PHOTO: Turnbull (center) stands by his unnamed sculpture after placing it on its base Wednesday in Paia. Turnbull's wife, Christine, said they plan to ask members of the public to suggest names for the piece. Folks with ideas for a fitting name are invited to stop by Turnbull Fine Art Gallery to offer their ideas.
