KAANAPALI - A cable fault on Honoapiilani Highway caused around 400 Maui Electric Co. customers in Kaanapali to lose power for almost two hours Thursday morning, the electric utility reported.
The outage occurred at 9:45 a.m., and customers were brought back online at 11:25 a.m.
Thursday's outage follows one Tuesday where around 670 Kaanapali customers lost power because a cross arm holding an electrical power line broke. Most of the customers were brought back online in a little more than two hours.
Maui Electric spokeswoman Kau'i Awai-Dickson said that the two outages were not related and different customers were affected.
The company's nonunion workers are addressing power problems while its union workers remain on strike pending the outcome of a vote on a tentative agreement. Results are expected today.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1260 began its strike March 4. The union has around 200 members at Maui Electric Co.
