Series on Christian beliefs starts Sunday

WAILUKU - Iao Congregational Church on Sunday will start a seven-week "What's the Least I Can Believe and Still Be a Christian?" series designed to clarify what Christians do and don't need to believe.

A discussion group will meet following the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sundays, through April 24, and small groups will gather during the week.

The community series will be "based on an engaging new book about mainline and moderate Christianity."

The church is at 2371 W. Vineyard St. in Wailuku.

Nichiren Mission fundraiser Saturday

KAHULUI - The Nichiren Mission will hold a fundraiser Saturday to help support its resident minister and twice-monthly services, mission spokeswoman Carolyn Suda said.

The mission's annual yard sale from 7 a.m. to noon at 9 Ani St. will offer clothing, furniture, kitchenware and plants, plus food items. Attendees may park on West Hawaii Street off Puunene Avenue.

The Rev. Tetsudo Takasaki presides at services held at 2 p.m. the first Saturday of each month and at 10 a.m. the third Sunday of each month.

Interfaith Lenten Journey offered

KIHEI - Three South Maui churches are collaborating to host a five-week Interfaith Lenten Journey that will start Wednesday.

The free series will feature a soup/salad supper at 6:30 p.m., followed by services from 7:15 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, as follows:

Wednesday at Kihei Lutheran Church, Piilani Highway at Moi Place. Call Pastor David Krueger at 879-7979.

March 23 and April 6 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 25 W. Lipoa St. Call the Rev. Monsignor Terrence Watanabe at 879-4844.

March 30 and April 13 at Trinity Episcopal Church by the Sea, 100 Kulanihakoi St. Call Pastor Austin Murray at 879-0161.
