Rotary encouraging donations for Japan

March 28, 2011
The Maui News

KAHULUI - The Rotary Club of Maui is encouraging people to make donations to the Hawaii Rotary District 5000, to benefit its sister club in Sendai, Japan, an area hit hard by the March 11 earthquake.

The funds will go for immediate use by the Sendai Club.

The donations may be matched by funds from District 5000 and the Rotary International Foundation, which is collecting donations for long-term rebuilding efforts.

Rotary Club of Maui members are still trying to contact Sendai Club members, a number of whom have visited Maui in two separate trips over the past decade. Children of members from both clubs have participated in exchange visits in Maui and Japan.

To contribute to the Sendai Club send checks to "District 5000 Foundation" and on the memo line indicate: "Sendai Japan Disaster Relief Fund." Mail check to PDG Roy King, 619 Onaha St., Honolulu 96816. For more information, call Valorie Spence at 283-9762 or 891-8800.

Donations for long-term reconstruction projects can be made through the Rotary International Foundation site at: riweb.rotaryintl.org/donor_xml/ContributionMenu.asp.

Checks may be sent to "The Rotary Foundation" with the notation: "Rotary Japan Disaster Recovery Fund, #G10005."

Mail to: The Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693.
