THURSDAY, APRIL 7

'DRIVING MISS DAISY' AT PROARTS IN KIHEI

ProArts' production of "Driving Miss Daisy" will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. at its playhouse in Kihei. Thursday nights are kamaaina nights with reduced rates of $15 for Hawaii residents. For details, see Backstage on Page 5.

FRIDAY, APRIL 8

'FLORAL FANTASY' IN WAILEA BLOSSOMING

Entertainment, gourmet dining and stunning floral designs will be in full bloom during the third annual Orchid Ball, a benefit for Montessori Hale O Keiki, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. The "Floral Fantasy"-themed event will feature over-the-top floral decor, unique to each table and designed by Maui's top floral designers, along with a cocktail reception, live and silent auctions, a gourmet dinner, and dancing to the live jazz stylings of SLAM featuring David Choy. A special one-hour "Floral Preview Party" from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. will be held for industry flower buyers, wedding professionals and interested members of the public. TRADITIONAL THAI DANCE IN LAHAINA

The beauty of Thai dance returns to Pad Thai Restaurant in The Wharf Cinema Center with free performances for patrons from 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays, Monday and Wednesday. Dancers dressed in traditional Thai costumes and donning authentic headpieces will glide gracefully to the country's music. TOP ASIAN-AMERICAN PLAYWRIGHT AT MACC

One of the most prolific playwrights in Asian-American theater, Philip Kan Gotanda, will discuss his projects, read from his work and show videos during an event at McCoy Studio Theater at 6:30 p.m. For details, see Special Events on Page 7.

JOHNNY WINTER AND BAND PLAYS CASTLE

'FEARLESS FEMALE FRENZY' UPCOUNTRY

Girl power is an understatement for what's in store with "Fearless Female Frenzy" at Casanova in Makawao. Shea Derrick hosts the night of sistahood, featuring live entertainment by superwomen Christina Boyden, aka DJ Sweet Beets, Kelli Love and Maesyn. The sweet, soulful, sultry harmonies will be followed by DJ Sweet Beets after 11:30 p.m. Cost is $5 before 10:30 p.m. and $10 after.

FUN DAZE BAZAAR WITH FRANK DELIMA

Frank Delima will bring the fun to St. Anthony Grade School's Fun Daze Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wailuku campus, 1618 L. Main St. The daylong event packed with food, live entertainment, auctions, games, a rummage sale and more, will feature the star comedian's at noon; other performers include Waihu Sons, Benny Uyetake, Jarret Roback & Friends, Hulu Lindsey, Deja Vu Band, Derick Sebastian, Sharon Z. and others. TIMMY MATTOS TO BRING THE LAUGHS

Don't know Timmy Mattos? The Hawaii comedian, who has been touring as an opening act for Augie T., will answer that question with his new show "Da Who Is Timmy Mattos?" Mattos' quick-paced night of comedy will kick off at 8 p.m. at Maui Beach Hotel to feature special guest comedians Silly Sid, Lanai, Maui's own Chino LaForge and host Champ Kaneshiro of OC16. Mattos dishes on obesity, marriage, life experiences and his insane encounters as a special education teacher during his first statewide comedy tour. ALLIEZ CONTINUES CD RELEASE SHOWS

Homegrown reggae band Alliez continues its CD release tour "Right Time" around Maui with live performances in Kihei this weekend and in Paia and Kahului later this month. The band will play at 9 p.m. at Haui's Life's A Beach in Kihei. For details, see Music on Page 14.

'EAT PRAY LOVE LAUGH' AT MACC

Take an Epicurean journey through Italy, India and Bali during the 14th annual Elegant Afternoon Tea, a benefit for Women Helping Women, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the new Yokouchi Pavilion at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. MUSIC, DANCE OF BALI AT MOLOKAI LIBRARY

To celebrate National Library Week, Hawaii's public libraries are hosting free programs throughout the month. Experience the music and dance of Bali with I. Made Widana and Anna Reynolds at 3 p.m. at Molokai Public Library. Performers will demonstrate gamelan, the traditional musical ensemble found in Bali that includes gongs, bronze metallophone instruments of various sizes, double-headed drums and flutes.
