CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS FEST KICKS OFF

The 19th annual Celebration of the Arts Festival will kick off from 6 a.m. to midnight at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and nearby locations. For details, see Making the Scene.

FREE SCREENING OF THE FILM 'GASLAND'

Maui Tomorrow Foundation is offering a free screening of the award-winning documentary "Gasland" at 7 p.m. at the Historic Iao Theater in conjunction with Earth Day. Doors open at 6:30 with a performance by Joel Katz. "Gasland" documents the largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history. Part verite' travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown, Gasland is a cross-country odyssey with unexpected humor, uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. ERIC GILLIOM'S NEW 'SOUL SESSIONS'

Fusing influences from soul, R&B and funk, Eric Gilliom will present a new show called "Soul Sessions" to deliver an array of musical talent paired with hip, rhythmic undercurrents at 7:30 p.m. at Stella Blues in Kihei. Cost is $20. Some Gilliom fans who only know him for his contemporary Hawaiian music hits may be surprised to hear new arrangements of his originals, plus songs from Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Van Morrison. 'RATS!' TAKES STAGE AT PROARTS IN KIHEI

Vocalizing vermin are all the rage in the town of Hamelin with ProArts' presentation of "RATS! The Pied Piper Musical," which opens at 7:30 p.m. in Kihei. For details, see Backstage.

KEIKI EASTER DAY IN LAHAINA LAUNCHES

Egg-cellent times are in store for kids during the inaugural Keiki Easter Day in Lahaina. Presented by 5A Rent-A-Space, the event from 8 to 11 a.m. will feature an Easter Egg Hunt for keiki up to age 10, and kids 11 to 14 will receive a free gift bag. Held at the 3600 Honoapiilani Road facility, the hunt will also offer free photos with the Easter Bunny, handmade crafts, food and refreshments. Space is limited. CELEBRATING ROOTS OF THE BANYAN TREE

Get back to the roots of Lahaina with the 138th Celebration of the Banyan Tree at the West Maui landmark. Arts and crafts, live music, activities for children, a silent auction, food and more will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presented by the Lahaina Town Action Committee, the party marks anniversary of the tree's planting on April 24, 1873. STUDENT MUSICIANS PERFORM WITH MYPO

Maui's youth will sound off during the The Maui Youth Philharmonic, Sinfonietta and Beginning Strings Orchestras' annual Spring Concert at 7 p.m. in the Baldwin High School Auditorium. The free concert will feature 60 student musicians, ages 9 to 17, on strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, as well as guest artists Sue Nakama on French horn, Richard Tadaki on trombone and Stephen Rodrigues on baritone. As one of Hawaii's favorite spooky storytellers, Jeff Gere is sure to spark chicken skin. In conjunction with National Library Week celebrations, Gere, of Oahu, will share true supernatural tales from Hawaii during a performance at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Kahului Public Library.
