Jehovah’s Witnesses Circuit Assembly begins Saturday

April 22, 2011
The Maui News

KAHULUI - The 14 congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses will hold a Circuit Assembly starting at 9:35 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

The program will draw an estimated 1,400 people and focus on practical ways to protect one's spirituality and relationship with God from corrupting influences that Jesus warned about.

The assembly theme, "You Are No Part of the World," comes from Jesus' words in John 15:19.

Admission is free. No collections will be taken.

In addition to English, sessions will be held in Spanish in the McCoy Theater on Saturday morning.

Visiting speaker Bill Driver, a representative of the World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses in Brooklyn, N.Y., will open with "No Part of the World - What Does It Mean?" A highlight will be a baptism discourse, "Come to Know God, What Now?"

Maui elders will lead a three-part "Do Not be Contaminated By . . ." symposium that will consider the meaning of Jesus' warnings.

Driver will conclude the Saturday afternoon program with a talk on "The World Is a Dangerous Environment for Christians."

Driver's discourse on "Christ's Kingdom Is 'No Part of This World'" at 1:50 p.m. Sunday will help congregation members understand how God's Kingdom with Jesus as king will be "vastly superior to anything that human political systems we see today can offer," according to an event announcement.

David Toguchi, the Maui Circuit representative of Jehovah's Witnesses, will present "Continue as 'Aliens and Temporary Residents.'"

Driver will conclude the assembly with "Take Courage! You Can Conquer the World."
