MAUI SLAMS FOR EARTH AT CASANOVA

Poets: Raise your voice for a healthier Earth. Listeners: Get involved with local and global issues - all while being entertained. Maui Slams for the Earth, an Earth Day slam poetry and open mic night event presented by Maui Slam, will kick off at 9:30 p.m. at Casanova in Makawao. EAST MAUI TARO FESTIVAL KICKS OFF

The 19th annual East Maui Taro Festival will raise roots to a new level with traditional foods, arts and crafts, cultural demonstrations, music and hula, this weekend in Hana. The popular fest, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will hold 22 food booths, 40 arts and crafts booths and a variety of demonstration and informational tents. Entertainment includes Pekelo Cosma and Ohana at 10 a.m.; Hula Halau Noe Noe O Kawaipapa at 11 a.m.; Leokane at 1 p.m.; Hawaiian Serenaders at 2 p.m.; Edmund Kalaola and the Backyard Garage at 3 p.m.; and C.J. CELEBRITIES SOAP UP CARS FOR GOOD CAUSE
