KAHULUI - A 27-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning when he was struck by a car on Hana Highway near Hansen Road, police said.
The pedestrian was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Around 12:49 a.m., a 1999 Honda Accord driven north on Hana Highway by a 32-year-old Pukalani man struck the pedestrian 485 feet north of Hansen Road, police said. The driver was not injured.
Authorities closed off Hana Highway between Pulehu Road and Haleakala Highway from about 1:30 to 4:30 a.m. while crash investigators did their job, said police spokesman Wayne Ibarra.
Police were investigating speed, drugs and alcohol as possible factors, according to the news release.
