ONE OF MAUI’S MOST-LOVED BANDS, EKOLU, IS HEADING OVER TO WAILUKU’S FIRST FRIDAY for the first time — and islanders from all over won’t want to miss their reggae, soul, contemporary, hip-hop, local music sounds. The biggest block party on the island shuts down Market and spills onto Vineyard and Main streets from 6 to 9 p.m. And the highlight of the night is the opening of Pride Ink, a new tattoo company on Main Street. To celebrate, Ekolu will play at Maui Thing’s stage. Also, Visibly Shaken will play at Wailuku Banyan Tree Park; Derick Sebastian and Roots Judgment will play at the Historic Iao Theater, presented by Hawaii Jaycees; Gene &?Shea Argel will play at Cafe O’Lei; and Exhale will mix live music, performance art and more at the Body Alive Yoga and Movement Studio on Main. Food, jewelry, artisans, crafters and more stack the sidewalks. Bring shoes or strong slippers for dancing, walking and navigating through the crowds.
