Shirley Kaha‘i, executive director of the Friends of Moku‘ula, gave a presentation at Malu‘ulu‘olele Park — where Mokuula used to sit — on the site’s significance and current restoration work to a group of senior citizens with Kaunoa Senior Services. She gave her presentation on the royal and sacred sanctuary with Andy Kutsunai (standing), Lahaina Restoration Foundation community education committee chairman, on April 25, at the first History With Our Kupuna tour by the foundation. It’s the foundation’s first free history tour of Lahaina for seniors. The April tour and a second one May 27 attracted more than 30 senior citizens. They visited 16 of Lahaina’s historic sites and museums, led by Kutsunai and docent Suzanne Bryer-Ayers. The senior citizen tour joins programs already in place for new teachers and Lahaina merchants.
